4 Smart and Simple SEO Strategies

Search engine optimization – what marketer doesn’t want more of organic traffic from search engines?

So just how do you get more search engine traffic?

Here are our top tips:

#1 – Write and distribute articles. You may have heard this tip already, but it is without a doubt one of the absolute best ways to drive traffic to your website. Each article you distribute to the directories could mean many potential one-way links back to your websites.

This means more visitors who read your content and click over for more information. But it also means higher ranking within the search engines themselves. Search engines love incoming one-way links, and the more articles you distribute the more back links you’ll get.

#2 – Optimize your website. Search engines are sophisticated but they still can’t find your website unless you optimize it fully. Ensure all your pages include a title tag, the appropriate keywords and a short description about your website. A clear navigation structure as well as a thorough site map will also help both the search engines and your human visitors find you.

#3 – Write great content. Great website content is to search engines what honey is to bees. They absolutely love it. The content on your website should be helpful, informative and as up-to-date as possible. Adding regular fresh content will be appreciated by your human visitors as well as the search engines.

#4 – Do your keyword research. Search engines and human visitors use keywords to find your website. Your keywords are the lifeblood of your business. It pays to take a little extra time to get this step right. Some keywords can bring thousands of repeat customers to your website for years. Other keywords won’t be found or rated at all.

Use a good keyword tool like Word Tracker to find the ultimate keywords for your market. Then use them on your website intertwined with fantastic quality content.

Getting quality search engine traffic does take a little work, but it’s very well worth it in the long run. Taking the time to set up your website properly from the start will pay you back over and over again.

Bing SEO: 6 Tips for Optimizing Your Website for Bing

You thought you were done when you optimized your site for Google, MSN, and Yahoo, right? Nope – the Microsoft Network, MSN, has partnered with Yahoo in a 10-year, $275 million dollar agreement and launched Bing.

Bing went live in June of 2009 and was instantly popular. It is intuitive and offers users a number of search options.

While we can’t predict the future, all signs point to making the effort now to optimize your website for Bing. Here are some tips:

#1 Make your content longer than 300 words. According to SEO experts, Bing algorithms seem to place a higher value on content that is over 300 words. That means longer blog posts, more content on web pages and longer articles.

#2 Optimize your title tags for your keywords and use unique <title> tags on each page. You may be doing this already for Google and Yahoo. Keep it up; Bing likes title tags and pays attention to them when indexing and ranking your page.

#3 Linking is always important. Bing likes backlinks from relevant websites and outbound links are treated with a bit more weight than other search engines.

#4 Target no more than 2 keywords per page. That’s a suggestion from Bing’s FAQ page.

#5 Meta Tags. You may have let your meta tags slide because rumor has it that Google doesn’t really pay attention to them. But Bing recommends you use unique <meta> description tags on each page.

#6 Continue to use other standard optimization techniques and strategies.

For example:

* Use H1 tags

* Use text navigation links

* Use keywords in your URL

As you might expect, there’s some disagreement on these points among experts. There are some reports that indicate Bing places value on longevity. The older your website, the more respect Bing seems to want to give you. Other sources cite that younger, newer sites, have the advantage. Regardless, whether you’re a brand new site or a website that’s been around for years, put the above practices in place and be patient.

As an Internet business owner it’s always good to pay attention to what the big three are doing, the big three being MSN, Yahoo, and Google. And when two of them team up then that most certainly deserves a change in strategy. As the months pass and Bing continues to grow, there will likely be some additions or changes to how they index and rank websites. Stay tuned for further developments.
